One dies, seven injure in Lagos-Ibadan road crash

One person died while seven others were injured in a lone accident involving a Daf truck carrying cattle around the Ogunmakin end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday morning.

The crash reportedly occurred at about 6:10am involving 15 people. The cause of the accident was said to be a burst tyre leading to loss of control and the eventual crash.

The spokesperson for Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists.

Okpe said that there was another accident on the long bridge of the expressway involving a tanker carrying kerosene which fell and spilled its content on the road causing traffic snarl and diversion to ease the free flow of traffic

The statement reads, “The crash occurred at about 0610 hrs this morning involving 15 persons and all male adults. Seven persons were injured and one person was recorded dead from the lone crash.

“One vehicle was involved with no registration on it, a Daf truck conveying both passengers and animals.

“The suspected causes of the lone crash were a burst tyre, speed which led to a loss of control and the vehicle crashed. The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere for medical attention.”

The statement noted that the FRSC operatives managed the situation and that the traffic was diverted to the other lane in order to remove the obstruction off the road.

“The second crash at the Long Bridge involving a fallen kerosene tanker is being managed by the FRSC operatives, no death nor injury recorded from the crash.

“Another tanker has been called for trans- loading of the content, area is corned to avoid secondary crash and operatives placed in different  points for traffic control.”
